The Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales project, secured by the Skills Ambassador Network in 2014, is a Welsh Government funded initiative led by Coleg Sir Gar.
The project, which initially focused on skills competitions, provides a supportive infrastructure to deliver improved medal winning success at National and International Skills Competitions for competitors from Wales. The project was extended in 2017 to combine the three elements of: Skills Competition Wales; International Competitor Support and Have a Go.
Targeting sectors of economic importance to Wales, the project supports the skills required to increase the effectiveness of businesses. The investment will:
Improve the awareness that increased skills and appropriately chosen career pathways are open to young people.
Deliver specialised, high quality coaching and development for competitors.
Raise the skills and knowledge of college and training provider staff in order for them to develop a pool of competitors displaying World-class talent.
Engage with and support the employers of competitors, demonstrating the benefits of competition engagement whilst showcasing Welsh industry to the world at local, national and international level.
The incorporation of Skills Competitions Wales and the ‘Have a Go programme’, with its recently funded physical resource, into the delivery of the project creates an effective, more cohesive programme of activity that will improve outcomes and increase impact. The restructured and targeted programme of activities will expand the network of stakeholders involved. It will include schools and generate wider employer engagement. All parties collaborating to improve the future of young people and employers in Wales.
